Devon Beach Guide

Sandy Bay Beach

Location:
East Devon.
Description:
Sandy Bay is a super sandy beach, which at low tide stretches all the way to Exmouth. There is a large caravan park above the beach. There is no parking and access to the beach is by walking along the beach from Exmouth at low tide or walking on the coast path from Exmouth or from Budleigh Salterton. To the east of Sandy Bay is a beach at Littleham Cove, but there is currently no access here due to a landslide.
Safety:
Lifeguards in summer. Signs warn of submerged rocks and unstable cliffs. Also there is a risk of getting cut off at high tide. See Beach Safety Guide.
Access:
At Sandy Bay by the caravan park, there is a long sloping concrete path to the beach which is too steep for wheel chairs.
Dogs:
Dogs are banned 1st May to 30th September.
Directions:
Exmouth is approximately 11 miles from Exeter. Take the A376 from Exeter to Exmouth. If bypassing Exeter on the M5 turn off onto the A376 (Junction 30, signposted to Exmouth). On the A376 turn right at the roundabout at Clyst St Mary to stay on the A376 (again signposted to Exmouth). Follow the A376 to Exmouth. Approaching Exmouth at the roundabout after the bus station, turn left onto the B3178 (signposted to Town Centre). At the next roundabout turn right onto Rolle Street to continue on the B3178 through Exmouth town centre. Continue on Rolle Street which becomes Rolle Road, until a roundabout and then turn left onto Salterton Road (to continue on the B3178). Continue on Salterton Road until the Littleham Cross junction and here turn right (signposted to Littleham and Sandy Bay). Follow this road east out of Exmouth through the village of Littleham to the Sandy Bay caravan park. Alternatively park at Exmouth and walk the coast path east to Sandy Bay (takes 30-40 minutes) or walk along the beach at low tide.
