Devon Beach Guide

North Sands Beach

South Devon.
North Sands is a popular flat sandy beach close to Salcombe. There is plenty of sand at low tide and fine views looking out to the Kingsbridge Estuary. Facilities and parking are close to the beach. There is also a nice picnic area behind the beach.
Signs warn of strong undercurrents, not to swim in boating lane (marked by buoys) and not to use inflatables when windy. See Beach Safety Guide.
There is easy access to the beach, with a short slipway from the road.
Dogs allowed all year at North Sands.
Salcombe is approximately 23 miles from Plymouth. Take the A379 from Plymouth into south Devon and about a mile after Aveton Gifford, at the Bantham Cross roundabout go straight across onto the B3197. Alternatively approaching from the Totnes direction, take the A381 and A379 until you reach the Bantham Cross roundabout (shortly after Churchstow) and turn onto the B3197. After a short distance on the B3197, turn right onto the A381 and follow this road to Salcombe. At Salcombe, continue on the A381 around the outskirts of Salcombe and then turn right onto Sandhills Road signposted to North Sands and South Sands. This road zig zags down to Cliff Road. Turn right onto Cliff Road and drive to the North Sands car park. Alternatively you can park in Salcombe and walk along Cliff Road to North Sands (20-30 minutes).
