East Portlemouth Beach

South Devon.

Below East Portlemouth village there is a pleasant stretch of sandy beach on the east bank of Salcombe Harbour. Café and toilets are close to the beach. There is a ferry to/from Salcombe. At low tide the sand stretches south to Mill Bay.

Access to the beach from the road is via a short sloping path, the beach can also be accessed from walking along the beach at Mill Bay at low tide.

East Portlemouth village is approximately 8 miles from Kingsbridge, which is 20 miles from Plymouth. Take the A379 from Plymouth to Kingsbridge or alternatively take the A381 from Totnes to Kingsbridge. At Kingsbridge follow the A379 through Kingsbridge and out of Kingsbridge to the east. About 2 miles east of Kingsbridge at the village of Frogmore, turn right, signposted to East Portlemouth. Follow this road through South Pool and after South Pool follow the sign posts to East Portlemouth. Note that on this route there are several parts that are impassable at high tide. At East Portlemouth continue on the road to the Mill Bay car park or alternatively turn left to park at the top of the village where there is very limited parking. From the Mill Bay car park walk along the beach at low tide to reach the beach at East Portlemouth. There are alternative routes from Frogmore to East Portlemouth which avoid the tidal sections.

The best option for parking is the car park at Mill Bay. Also a very small car park and some road parking at the top of East Portlemouth village, but note the path down from the village to the beach is steep.
