Devon Beach Guide

Wonwell Beach

West Devon.
Wonwell Beach is a pleasant sandy beach on the east shore of the Erme river. At low tide there is a large expanse of sand. Unfortunately parking is very limited and there are no facilities.
Risk of getting cut off at high tide. See Beach Safety Guide.
From the road there is a woodland walk (signposted as a public footpath) to Wonwell Beach, which takes about 10 minutes and is sloping in places. There is also a slipway from the road to the shore of the Erme river and at low tide its possible to walk along the rivers edge to Wonwell Beach.
Dogs allowed all year at Wonwell Beach.
Wonwell Beach is about 14 miles from Plymouth. From Plymouth take the A379 to cross the Laira Bridge to Plymstock and continue east into South Devon on the A379. Alternatively take the A379 west from South Devon. Approximately 4 miles east of Yealmpton, turn south (signposted to Orcheton). Continue on this road (which is very narrow in places) for about 2 miles until the road bends to the left. Here turn right (signposted to Wonwell Beach) and continue on this lane for about a mile until the parking area.
Post Code:
Limited road parking for about 15-20 cars in the lane above the rivers edge.
